My name is Giovanni and I will be doing Ben’s guest blog for the week. For this week I have decided to choose Derek Fisher. Fisher is a former player and coach, and he is well known for his long career in the NBA where he played for the Lakers from 1996-2004 and then came back in 2007 and played until 2012. Fisher was born August 9, 1974, in Little Rock Arkansas and was able to stay in his hometown where he played collegiate basketball for the University of Arkansas Little Rock. He was drafted 24th overall by the Lakers in the 1996 NBA Draft. Through his time in the league and on the Lakers he displayed his skills, which consisted of his high basketball IQ, strong work ethic, and the ability to perform in critical situations. His playoff achievements highlight Fisher’s significant role in his teams playoff successes and helps to pad his reputation as a clutch performer. These playoff categories consisted of games played, where he ranks among the all time leaders in playoff games played, three pointers made, where fisher is recognized for his clutch shooting, and assists where fisher ranks highly in playoff assists which showcases his ability to facilitate the ball and run point on officiant winning offenses. For my comparison to a theme of the week I would say the theme was competitiveness. This week we saw a very competitive Boulder Football team take the field and even though they fell short in the end we witnessed an amazing competitive battle. The Buffs were able to fight all the way back from down 14 and eventually even took the lead at the end of the game. It made for an enjoyable night and even though we watched the Buffs fall short they showed the world they can compete with anyone. For me personally I competed this week in a philanthropy golf tournament where my partner and I finished in 3rd place. We competed throughout the long round and were able to battle through adversity as we had our ups and downs throughout the round. We set a high standard for ourselves, which was to place in the prizes, and we competed to achieve that goal. Every week there is something that will get you feeling competitive, whether it is a sport or something in school. When it comes to school I like to set goals for myself and it is a challenge to meet these goals throughout the year. Fisher was known for his competitiveness and having a competitive attitude is great for everyone to incorporate in their day to day lives.
